Moray Council’s popular m.connect bus service has just launched (Monday 24 August) its new Bus Route Tracker app update, delivering real-time bus service tracking and journey planning for the m.connect fixed-route timetabled bus network.
The functionality is integrated directly into the existing m.connect app, meaning customers do not need to download a separate application. Customers who use the app must ensure the latest version is installed.
The update does not affect the existing m.connect On-Demand service, with bookings, fares, registrations and concession arrangements remaining unchanged.
As part of the Bus Revolution project funded by Moray Council and the Scottish Government through the Moray Growth Deal, the m.connect service aims to increase the number of people using public transport to get to and from work, education and leisure facilities, particularly in rural areas.
The Bus Route Tracker represents a significant milestone within the Bus Revolution programme, providing passengers with live information about where buses are, estimated times of arrival, live alerts, and journey planning and vehicle capacity information. The update hopes to improve passenger confidence and simplify journey planning to help increase the use of public transport in Moray.
The update also has accessibility benefits built in. Customers can view available seats on upcoming services including wheelchair spaces and step-free travel options. Each route has a wheelchair-accessible vehicle operating within the service network which are available to view in the app with live availability information, enabling passengers to make informed choices before leaving their home.
Councillor Marc Macrae, Chair of the Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee and Moray Growth Deal said: “We have listened to customer feedback and integrated some key functionality into the app. This will allow existing and new users to better plan their journeys, helping them make the most of the service. This launch demonstrates continued investment by Moray Council in improving public transport services and making travel information more accessible to residents.”
