Bus Revolution, or m.connect, is an innovative project that aims to increase the number of people using public transport to get to and from rural areas to places of work, education and leisure, providing a step change in availability of public transport right across rural Moray.
The project will provide a flexible demand responsive service, operating when and where needed in an easy-to-use way, utilising app-based technology that will allow journeys to be booked up to one hour before they’re needed.
The first phase of the Bus Revolution project launched in May 2023 when the popular Dial M bus service was enhanced and rebranded as m.connect – the on-demand bus service covering the whole of Moray.
This included the introduction of an easy-to-use app, allowing passengers to book up to two weeks in advance and up to one hour before travel.
This first phase of m.connect service enhancements also introduced the following additional service provision:
Full up-to-date timetables can be found on the Moray Council website.
rise in passenger journeys
increase in under 22 market
total passenger journeys
The m.connect service has seen signigicant growth over the last year (2023-24)
Moray Council is now introducing a series of service enhancements and new routes to better serve residents.
In 2025 the 333 Service connecting Burghead, Hopeman and Lossiemouth operates with distinct timetables for school term times and holidays, ensuring consistent service throughout the year.
Serving Elgin to Kingston, the 334 service route features an updated timetable to enhance travel options along the Elgin to Kingston corridor.
A revised timetable for the 309 service travelling to Cullen, Buckie and Keith has also come into effect, improving journey times and connections along this key corridor.
In response to community feedback, Moray Council is also introducing a new on-demand Saturday service in Buckie and Keith. This service offers residents flexible travel options, allowing bookings as needed without fixed schedules, and is priced affordably to support weekend activities. Operating hours will be every Saturday from 9am to 5pm covering Buckie Zones 1 & 2, Buckie/Keith Zone 3, and Keith Zone 1.
Additional services have launched, including a new on-demand Saturday service in Speyside operating every Saturday from 10am to 10pm, with travel into Elgin available from 6pm.
New timetabled services in Speyside will provide vital links between rural villages and central hubs. These include the 367 service travelling to Auchbreck, Knockando and Aberlour, as well as the 368 service connecting Tomintoul, Dufftown and Keith. Both routes will also link into existing services for travel to Elgin and other locations.
This latest phase of m.connect is a clear example of Moray Growth Deal investment delivering for the wider Moray region, breaking down transport barriers and improving access to services, jobs and community connections.
The Workforce Mobility Project is a Moray Council initiative, delivered in partnership with the Edinburgh & South East Scotland Regional Growth Deal team as part of the Bus Revolution programme.
The project brings together advanced mobile movement data and anonymised information from employers to build a clear picture of how people travel to and from work across Moray.
This evidence will be used to help ensure public transport services better reflect real commuting patterns and business needs.
Why this matters for employers?
