Bringing the best to Moray: Johnstons of Elgin supports the Moray Growth Deal bid
Chris Gaffney, group finance director and MD of Elgin Mill, Johnstons of Elgin, talks through why he supports a Cultural Quarter and the Moray Growth Deal bid.
Manufacturing is a critical part of the Moray economy and requires highly skilled, adaptable and dedicated staff. Johnstons also needs creative people in design, sales, retail, marketing and ecommerce, as well as administration professionals in IT, finance and HR.
The challenges that Moray has around how we keep ambitious young people in the area, or attract those with high skills to come here, are therefore very important to us. These challenges may be exacerbated by the potential impact of Brexit on Moray’s ability to attract talent from elsewhere in Europe.
When people are considering re-locating to the area we are commonly asked about education, health services, infrastructure, transport links and cultural and leisure facilities. These same issues are key to keeping our existing employees in the area and to them leading a fulfilling and healthy life.
So, we are pleased to see the Moray Growth Deal developing a suite of projects that will improve the quality of life of people that live here, attract new people and aid companies like ours to grow the economy.
